The Lake Nona YMCA Family Center shares a building with North Lake Park Community School and is located in the middle of a City park. A partnership comprised of three private and two public entities made this innovative project possible: Lake Nona Property Holdings Inc., Orlando Health, the City of Orlando, the Central Florida YMCA, and Orange County Public Schools.

This project is the first of its kind in the nation. By sharing resources, hundreds of taxpayer dollars were saved, a community hub was created, and the public elementary school was built much quicker than if the county had constructed it. The budgets of each organization involved in the partnership go further now. The City of Orlando provides the space; Lake Nona Development provides the landscaping and design; the YMCA provides quality health and wellness programs for the entire family; and the school provides learning with a variety of resources it would not otherwise have.

ProgramsDescription
After SchoolBecause the YMCA of Central Florida believes after school hours are a critical time, we have designed valued-based programs for more than 5,000 kids that have proven to improve school attendance, conduct and relationships with adults. The YMCA of Central Florida after school program encompasses everything from youth sports to mentoring and art workshops to academic tutoring, including homework help.
AquaticsYMCA of Central Florida offers progressive swimming opportunities for youth and adults. In YMCA aquatics programs, children learn to be safe around water and they feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning something new. The Central Florida YMCA aquatics programs include drowning prevention, infant-parent classes, preschool classes, classes for people with disabilities and classes for teens and adults. These include water exercise and therapy and water sports, including synchronized swimming and master competitive swimming for people 18 and over. Competitive programs are also available for youth.

Note:
Aquatic Programs differ at each YMCA Family Center, so contact your local YMCA for more information on which aquatic programs are available.
Safe StartDrowning is the second leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1 through 14 years. Florida is the second highest ranked in the nation for drowning-related deaths. The YMCA of Central Florida's Safe Start program is one of the most comprehensive drowning prevention programs in the United States. Safe Start Information
SeniorsThe YMCA of Central Florida is for people of all ages, abilities and incomes. We count older adults as some of our most loyal members. At our family centers, older adults have a chance to keep active and grow in spirit, mind and body. New friends and new opportunities add joy to life, and the Y also gives seniors a chance to share their time and talents with others, such as children and teens.

Note:
Senior programs differ at each YMCA Family Center, so contact your local YMCA for more information on which programs are available.
Youth SportsA mainstay of the YMCA of Central Florida offerings for young people, Y youth sports programs teach kids teamwork, cooperation and good sportsmanship. Youth sports include basketball and volleyball, baseball, softball, T-ball, soccer and progressive gymnastics. Other sports offerings range from traditional sports like tennis and football to such newer inventions as in-line rollerskate hockey and wallyball. Some YMCAs offer programs for people with disabilities and many offer options for adults, too.

Note:
Youth Sports differ at each YMCA Family Center, so contact your local YMCA for more information on which Youth Sports are available.
